CraneSafe Assessment Program
Looking for a few good men.
The BC Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association is currently looking for qualified candidates interested in becoming certified crane assessors in the province of British Columbia. Candidates must be able to show a minimum of 10 years crane operator experience, be able to pass the crane assessment examination with 80% or better (practical and written) and must be willing to participate in a one week crane assessors training program. Recently retired crane operators are welcome to apply. Full-time, part-time or contract work will be available.
What is it?
On July 1, 2007 new Occupational Health and Safety regulations in BC and the Yukon came into effect. WorkSafe BC introduced an industry driven crane operator qualification system for British Columbia. Persons in control of mobile cranes, tower cranes or boom-trucks must now meet rigorous assessment standards. All persons in control of these types of cranes must register and successfully complete an operator assessment process.
Why would I want to enroll in this program?
Since the creation of this regulation there have been close to 15,000 crane operators register to complete the licensing assessment. WorkSafe BC is requiring all operators to complete the assessment by February 28, 2011. It is estimated that another 4,000 additional crane assessments will be required over this time period due to new applications and re-assessment. The BC Road Builders will be looking to complete approximately 8,000 assessments over the next 22 months. Assessor contractors will be compensated per assessment plus expenses.
